New Home Warranty Insurance arrangements for NSW commenced on 1 July 2010 when the NSW Self insurance Corporation took over as the sole provider of home warranty insurance within NSW. The NSW Self Insurance Corporation trades as the NSW Home Warranty Insurance Fund.

QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited, Calliden Insurance Limited and Vero Insurance Limited (until 30 September 2010) have been appointed as insurance agents of the NSW Self Insurance Corporation through a contractual arrangement.

The new Scheme is underwritten and capitalised by the Government and funded by warranty insurance premiums.

In order to minimise disruption existing eligibilities will be automatically transferred from QBE, Calliden and Vero to the new NSW Home Warranty Insurance Fund.

Builders and trade contractors should continue to contact their insurance broker to obtain policies and certificates of insurance for construction projects subject to any existing eligibility conditions.

For builders and trade contractors currently insured with Vero you will need to select another insurance agent before 30 September 2010 to ensure continuity of cover. Insurance brokers can assist with this process.

Cover for building projects already issued by insurers will remain in force for the duration of the policy, allowing consumers to make claims where necessary.
